Clairvoyance: Fact or Fiction? Published on Wednesday, 09 June 2010 We rarely hear the word ‘clairvoyants', but no doubt we have often heard news or shows that describe seeing or experiencing the world with a faculty that is beyond our five senses. This is precisely what clairvoyance is about; seeing things, but not with the physical eyes. This experience could be compared to a dream experience, where you see people and objects while your eyes are closed. For clairvoyance, though, it is claimed that you can have this experience about things or objects in the real, waking world. People who call themselves clairvoyants (or ‘those who can see clearly') have always been the subject of controversy, especially from the scientific world. Although numerous researches and experiments have been conducted to determine the existence of such phenomena, the results have often been deemed questionable, to the point that some call clairvoyance a ‘pseudoscience'. This is because out of the said experiments and scientific studies, most follow-up studies failed to produce the same results, which makes them inconsistent, and therefore unreliable. However, the capability and extent of faculty of the human mind remains a mystery. Due to the fact that humans use only about 10% of their brains for everyday activities, that remaining percentage opens opportunity for us to question why we have experiences like déjà vu, or seeing events or things without the use of the human senses.
